Autumn | Letting go...

Autumn has always been one of my favorite times of the year. There is just something about the crispness of the air, the colors, the cinnamon smell that seems to be in the air of every building I enter. Autumn is the start of the holiday season as we quickly move from costumes to tinsel to trees. It is the beginning of a season of change. Everyone seems to slow down a little and savor the moments with friends and family a little more.

There is a quote that I often see this time of year, “The trees are about to show us how lovely it is to let things go.” There is something about the thought of letting go that resonates so deeply within me. Autumn is my calm before the storm.

When September comes around as it does every year, I like to take some time to think about how far I have come and where I am right now. What has happened that I need to deal with, what needs clearing out (the dam garage!!!), where can I mend the friendship fences and where can I let go and what no longer works. I like to take a day and just ponder on the thought if letting go.... it usually involves bin bags and trips to the tip or charity shop but there is also a degree of a mental clear out too.

Even though we didn't do much in the Summer, it really does feel like it was a whirlwind, and this year it seems to have been tainted with rising costs, uncertain times business wise and the looming hike in energy bills. I feel like all I have talked about is politics, petrol prices, news, war and energy bills,

This is also the time when we start to think about Christmas and as a business this is the "busy period" for us as we start making plans, more plans and then some more plans to get ready for the next four months. I cannot even begin planning until I have had a clear out, a tidy and some time to put Summer to rest.

So like the trees, I will let go. I will let go of drama of Summer, of the things that didn't work out as I planned, the diets that I never stuck too and of the times that I stressed over nothing. I will let go of everything, and I will have a dam good clear out.... get ready charity shop, get ready Christmas, here we go.

What will you let go of?
